Tourmakeady is a Gaeltacht area awash with beautiful views situated between Lough Measc and the Partry mountains. In the heart of the area is Tourmakeady Wood with its nature trail and walk, it is a millennium forest and its jewel is the Waterfall on the Glensaul river.
It is a quiet peaceful area a paradise for walkers with a wide variety of flora and fauna from mountain to lake. There are many geographical features from the ice-age. There is a wide variety of rocks and geological features which add to the walks.
Lough Measc is world renowned as a centre of trout angling and anglers from all over the world come to fish here. The area has a rich cultural tradition the language, music, song and dance.
Historically the area was in the fore front of the Land War, The Irish language revival and the War of Independence.
There are many festivals and events throughout the year like the Agricultural Show, Ceol na Locha, European Cup for Fishing etc.
